Frequently asked questions

The answers our support team gives most often.

My incubator is slow to warm up
First check the room: the incubator should sit in a stable, temperate room, ideally 18 to 20 °C (64 to 68 °F), away from draughts and direct sunlight. A cold room (garage, utility room) stops it reaching temperature. It's the number-one reason people contact support.
How can I be sure of the humidity level?
Follow your model's manual: the DX5 manages humidity automatically, while the GC5601 uses one to three bottles depending on the stage. The best indicator is still the air cell seen when candling: roughly a tenth of the volume at the start, a third by the end of incubation.
My heat plate gives off no light and feels barely warm to the touch
That's exactly how it should work: it warms by contact, without light, like the body of a hen. The chicks slip underneath to warm up. Adjust the leg height so their backs almost brush the plate.
What should I do if the power cuts out during incubation?
Don't panic, and don't open the lid: the incubator holds its warmth for a while. Restart it as soon as the power returns, and contact us if the cut lasted several hours — we'll help you assess the clutch by candling.
Is the ebook included?
Yes, the From Egg to Hen ebook comes with our incubators, alongside the printed manual. It's available in six languages.
